The annual Foresters Awards Ceremony has taken place in the Auditorium at the Home of Darts, even though the team were sadly relegated there were several high points of the season.
The ceremony started with the minor awards (Most Games Won, Best Single Game Average and Most Points Scored).
The lucky winners were:-
Most Games Won- Andy Nesbit took the Most Games Won award by racking up 15 wins over the course of the season. He edged what was a closely fought contest with Liam Williams.
Best Single Game Average - James Calvert took this award for the match against the Dryden in which he has an average of 65.25, there was a marked improvement on last years average as seven players had a best single average of 60.20.
Most Points Scored- Andy Nesbit picked up another award with the Most Points Scored gong. Andy scored 6,450 points over the course of the season. Another sign of team improvement can be seen as four players managed to score over 6,000 points.
There was an air of excitement as the awards that guaranteed a player a place in the Hall of Fame were announced. These awards are for Best 3 Dart Average for the Season, Highest Checkout and Peoples Choice.
Best 3 Dart Average for the Season- Ian Henderson entered the Hall of Fame with his 3 Dart Average of 44.20. This award caused a stir in the auditorium as Ian played six games, one more than the required minimum, but rules are rules and Ian had played the minimum number of games. Second place went to Liam Williams with an average of 44.04 and third place went to John Vickers with an average of 37.17.
Highest Checkout- Stephen Sarbutts took the Highest Checkout award for a brilliant 99 against the Farnworth on the 28th of February. Liam Williams was again pipped for an award as he finished second with a 92 checkout, third place went to Alan Williams with a checkout of 84.
Peoples Choice Award- The People’s Choice award is given out to a player who does something truly memorable. This year that player is Chris Moss for his game against the Phythian. Thinking he had 107 left he duly checked out 107, only to be told he had 10 left. Cue a cry of NOOOOOO and laughter, he was the logical choice.
The final two awards of the night are arguably the biggest, Darts Writers Player of the Year and Darts Players Player of the Year. The Darts Writers Player of the Year is given to the player with the highest ranking points and the Darts Players Player of the Year is given to the player who has won the most Man of the Match Awards on the Foresters Forum.
Darts Writers Player of the Year- This years award goes to Liam Williams who had a great season and finished with 74.40 ranking points. Liam was top or nearly top on all of the ranking calculators which shows how well he played this season.
Darts Players Player of the Year- This years award goes to Alan Williams, who along with Stephen become to the first Foresters players to be inducted into the Hall of Fame twice. Alan was voted Man of the Match on five occasions which shows how highly regarded his performances have been by his fellow players.
Congratulations and thanks to all players this season for the efforts, the Skip.
